makes Antonio Vivaldi's clever, colorful but ultimately lightweight
"The Four Seasons" sound better than Mozart's profound, disturbing
Symphony No. 40 in G Minor. But right or wrong, that's what the
National Symphony Orchestra did last night.
And right or wrong, the audience loved it. The orchestra and
guest conductor/violinist Pinchas Zukerman got the kind of ovation
that Kennedy Center audiences usually reserve for opera stars-five
minutes, ended only by an encore. "You're going to recognize it," he told the audience, while the
orchestra flipped back through the score to the slow movement of the
"Winter" …
